The 2025–2026 blueberry season in Peru is coming to an end on a very positive note, with a significant increase in prices and excellent fruit quality. This was stated by Sebastián Ochoa, Director of Consultora Agrícola y Comercial Santa María, CASM Blueberries, and founder of Blueberries News, following his recent visit to production fields in the country.

Ochoa visited the orchards of Agrícola Cerro Prieto, one of the most important projects in Peru.“At the moment I am at Agrícola Cerro Prieto, in the Chepén area. This farm has more than 1,000 hectares of blueberries and plans to reach 2,200 hectares. Varieties such as Pop, Magica, Ventura, among others, are produced here,” he commented.

Second Week of Field Visits and Early Harvest in Chile
The international advisor explained that he is now in his second week of visits across Peru, where he has been involved in key end-of-season activities.

“We have been reviewing harvests, preparing orchards for pruning, and analyzing post-harvest processes. The season is ending very well, with high prices that continue to rise,” he said.
Ochoa also noted that the season in Chile started about 20 days earlier due to a higher accumulation of degree days, which has led to an earlier end to the harvest.
“This has resulted in less fruit on the market in the second half of January. Together with the lower volumes from Peru — due to many companies pruning earlier — this has pushed prices up.

“During January, volumes have dropped significantly and prices have increased. Therefore, February is expected to be a month of very high values for blueberries. In fact, the FOB price rose last week from around US$5 to approximately US$8,” he explained.

Agronomic Management in Response to Rising Temperatures
The advisor also warned about the need to implement protection strategies in response to increasing radiation and temperatures.
“The fruit is healthy and of very good quality, but we are already seeing radiation levels above 1,000 W/m², so it is essential to begin applying sun protectants, glycine betaine, and biostimulants to protect the plants,” he concluded
