Mexico advances in its blueberry harvest with fruit of excellent size and quality

The blueberry harvest continues to progress in Mexico. Last week, Simón Muñoz, international advisor at Consultora Agrícola y Comercial Santa María (CASM Blueberries), visited several companies to assess the status of the season.

“We worked with a new company, Hassiba, in the state of Nayarit. We visited their in-ground fields with the Sekoya Pop variety, which showed very positive development,” Muñoz noted.

He also added that in the state of Jalisco, near Guadalajara, container-grown fields under tunnel systems operated by the company were evaluated.

“We also visited Prize’s fields in Zamora (Michoacán) to review harvest progress and fine-tune fertilization. We then toured the Los Reyes area in Michoacán with the company Berries Paradise, which is experiencing a very strong season,” the advisor noted.

According to Muñoz, in Michoacán, Berries Paradise has reached a harvest progress of between 50% and 60%, while in its fields in Jalisco, progress exceeds 75%, approaching 80%.

“They are achieving very good results and are very satisfied with the work carried out. We are seeing fruit with very good size and excellent quality, which has supported prices in international markets,” he explained.

International prices drive returns

Strong production performance has been accompanied by favorable market conditions. “In markets such as the United States, prices have remained high, translating into very good returns for growers,” Muñoz added.

He also highlighted the impact of the technical work carried out: “Our support has delivered concrete benefits, with improvements in fruit size and production results that have left teams highly satisfied.”
