Fall Creek Farm & Nursery has announced the acquisition of Berryplant, a leading Italian producer of raspberry and blackberry plants, and Berrytech, a company specializing in breeding and intellectual property management.
The transaction marks a strategic step for Fall Creek®, adding raspberries and blackberries to its portfolio while maintaining its global leadership in blueberries and strengthening its ability to serve the evolving needs of berry growers and marketers.
“For nearly 50 years, Fall Creek®.has built its business alongside the blueberry industry—sharing fields, customers, and the belief that better genetics create better growers. Expanding into raspberries and blackberries was never a question of if, but when,” said Marc de Beer, CEO of Fall Creek®.
The executive added that the increasing integration of berry categories across production and marketing has been a key driver behind the decision. “Growers and retailers increasingly need a trusted partner that can support them across multiple berry categories, not just one. We have spent years developing the teams, breeding programs, and commercial infrastructure needed to meet that demand,” he stated.
A Partnership Built on Genetics and Innovation
Berryplant is a family-owned company based in Baselga di Piné, in Italy’s Trentino region, with more than three decades of experience in raspberry and blackberry propagation. Its key genetics include the raspberry varieties Amalia, Clarita, Optima, Shani, and Eros, as well as blackberry varieties from the Loch series.
Founded in 2019, Berrytech manages the group’s breeding programs and intellectual property portfolio. The company currently holds 10 Plant Breeders’ Rights titles for raspberry and blackberry varieties.
Berryplant is also one of only four certified pre-basic propagation material centers for raspberries and blackberries in Europe, reinforcing its position as a key player in the berry propagation industry.
In recent years, Berryplant and Berrytech have expanded their international presence, supplying plants and genetics to customers in markets around the world.
Following the acquisition, Berryplant will continue its nursery operations under the name Fall Creek Italia. In addition, Berrytech and Fall Creek Italia will initially operate as independent entities to ensure business continuity and maintain uninterrupted service for customers and partners throughout the integration process.
