The quality and condition of Peruvian blueberries have positioned the country as the world’s leading exporter of this fruit in the Southern Hemisphere and a benchmark for the industry across key destination markets.
In a context marked by increasing competition, evolving market requirements, and continuous technological advancements, staying up to date with the latest knowledge and innovations has become essential to maintaining and strengthening the leadership of Peru’s blueberry industry.
Applied blueberry physiology, climate outlooks, genetics, nutrition, biostimulation, and industry trends will be among the topics addressed by leading national and international experts during the 1st International Blueberry Production Specialization Course.
The event, organized by CASM Blueberries, will take place at the Casa Andina Hotel in Chiclayo and will feature a full day of technical presentations on June 30, followed by a Field Day on July 1, allowing participants to complement theoretical knowledge with practical observations and on-site experiences.
Experts to Share Technical and Strategic Insights
The program will begin with a presentation by Sebastián Ochoa, Director of CASM Blueberries, who will discuss “Applied Blueberry Physiology: Foundations for Agronomic Management in Peru.” He will be followed by Felipe Costa, International Director of CIIFEN, who will address “Climate Outlooks for Northern Peru: Lessons from El Niño and Challenges for the Agriculture of the Future.”
Next, Antonia Maggiolo, Head of R&D at CASM Blueberries, together with Fernando Villagrán, International Blueberry Production Consultant, will present the conference “Applied Research in Nutrition and Biostimulation: Results and Strategies to Optimize Yield and Fruit Quality.”
The program will continue with a presentation by David Sandoval, International Market Analyst and CEO of Fluctante, who will examine the role of “Lambayeque: A Strategic Player in Northern Peru’s Agro-Export Industry.”
Simón Muñoz, International Blueberry Production Consultant at CASM Blueberries, will then deliver the presentation “Where Is the Blueberry Industry Heading? Global Trends and New Varieties for Northern Peru.” Joining remotely from the United States, Dr. Patricio Muñoz, a specialist in plant breeding and genetics, will explain “The Genetics Behind the Future: How the Varieties Driving the Next Stage of the Blueberry Industry Are Developed.”
The event will conclude with the panel discussion “The Future of the Peruvian Blueberry Industry: Perspectives from Industry Leaders,” moderated by Simón Muñoz. Panelists will include Alfredo Lira, Founder and CEO of Agroleal; Miguel Bentín, General Manager of Valle y Pampa Perú; Carlos Luna, Operations Director at Agrícola Cerro Prieto; and Pablo Eyheralde, CEO of Unifrutti Perú.
