The United States remains the leading market for Peruvian blueberries. Between January and July 2026, purchases from Peru reached US$347.4 million, up 79.6% from the same period a year earlier, and accounted for 56% of Peru’s total blueberry export value.

The growth of the U.S. market came amid a period of strong expansion in Peruvian shipments. According to figures from the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), fresh blueberry exports totaled US$620 million during the first seven months of the year, compared with US$376.4 million between January and July 2025.

The increase was also reflected in volume. Peru exported 84,800 tons, 45.1% more than the 58,500 tons shipped during the same period last year.

The difference between the two growth rates also points to an increase in the average export value during the period. Based on figures reported by MIDAGRI, it rose from approximately US$6.43 per kilogram between January and July 2025 to around US$7.31 per kilogram this year.

The Netherlands and China round out the leading destinations

Although the United States continues to account for a large share of exports, other markets remain important destinations for Peruvian blueberries. The Netherlands ranked second, accounting for 16.9% of export value, followed by China at 5.8%.

The export performance also comes amid a recovery in production that, according to MIDAGRI, progressed despite the high temperatures caused by the El Niño phenomenon (ENSO). Blueberry production in La Libertad increased by 106% through July, a result the ministry attributed to the shift toward higher-yielding varieties and favorable weather conditions. In Ica, meanwhile, growth was associated with an increase in harvested area and market demand.

La Libertad continues to account for the largest blueberry-growing area in the country, with 12,888 hectares, followed by Lambayeque with 7,519 hectares and Ica with 4,199 hectares. Together, the three regions account for 84% of Peru’s total area planted with blueberries.

Peru remains one of the leading players in the global blueberry market, after closing 2025 with exports exceeding US$2.457 billion.
